Coldplay are a British pop / rock band formed of four extremely talented members. Chris Martin (Lead Singer), Jonny Buckland (Lead Guitarist), Guy Berryman (Bass Guitarist), and Will Champion (Drummer / Instrumentalist).
The band was formed in 1996 by front man, Chris Martin and, fellow band mate, Jonny Buckland whilst studying at University College London. Other band members Guy Berryman, Will Champion, and the unofficial fifth band member and manager Phil Harvey had all joined the group by 1998. Previous band names such as Pectoralz, Big Fat Noises, and Starfish were changed once and for all in 1998 when the band was renamed, COLDPLAY.
Chris Martin
Chris was born in Whitestone (Exeter) on the 2nd March 1977 in a family consisting of sour other siblings of whom all are younger than him.
Since being part of the COLDPLAY revolution, Chris Martin has also featured in vast songwriting and collaborations for and with other headlining names such as Jamelia, The Streets, Jay-Z, and Kanye West.
His main inspirations in music have been bands such as Travis, U2, Oasis, Muse, and Norwegian Synth-Pop band ‘a-ha’.
In 2003, Chris Martin got married to famous actress Gwyneth Paltrow and now has two children, Apple and Moses.
Interesting Fact: He suffers from Insomnia and doesn’t drink alcohol or smoke.
Jonny Buckland
Jonny, the main guitarist of Coldplay, was born in Islington (London) on the 11th September 1997.
From the age of eleven, Jonny has had a particular talent in playing the guitar getting inspiration initially from his older brother in addition to being inspired by acts such as Ride, and My Bloody Valentine.
Jonny met front man Chris Martin at University College London whilst studying Astronomy and Mathematics.
Interesting Fact: He is a lifetime supporter of Tottenham Hotspur F.C.
Guy Berryman
Guy, the bass guitarist of the band, was born in Kirkcaldy (Scotland) on the 12th April 1978.
He also met fellow band mates whilst studying at University College London where he studied architecture after starting studying engineering. After a short period of time, Guy dropped out of university to concentrate on his music career.
In his spare time between touring and producing music, Berryman has a particular interest in marathon running and photography.
Interesting Fact: Guy is left handed, yet he plays the bass guitar right handed.
Will Champion
Will, the percussionist of the band, was born in Southampton (England) on the 31st July 1978.
Will Champion is a man of many talents with the ability to play piano, violin, guitar, bass guitar, and of course the drums. All these talents were discovered from the age of 8!
Although he was the last member to join the band in 1997, he quickly adapted to playing the drums for the band with no previous band experience.
Interesting Fact: Will was previously sacked by front man Chris Martin in 1999, however rejoined the band shortly after.
